Bad Robot!

With the rise of digital assistants, there have been some funny stories of miscues, out of control devices and situations involving toddlers ordering food and toys no one ever saw coming.  Alexa, the Amazon digital assistant is known as much for being a helpful assistant around the house to being responsible for taking orders to make expensive purchases from a six-year-old.  I say leave it to a child to design the next version of the software that runs these things, and we’ll all be the better for it.  After all, we no longer think like they do, so we don’t have the capacity to bring it down to the most basic level.  Most assistants are designed to make complex tasks look easy.  I’m sure there will be a competition that has kids making the next digital assistant because there are a lot of competitions that offer prizes to young boys and girls for the most daring and innovative projects, and many are very good.

Some challenge the students to have fun with tech and make silly inventions that make you laugh.  Some require that you make an invention using illumination and others have categories like games, robots, AI and more.

Upcoming tech conferences mean travel, and travel means days living out of a suitcase, meals at dubious restaurants, and making chit chat with people whose names you won’t remember the next day.  But it’s also a time when the tech sector gets to shine.  Especially when children are involved. I’ll be traveling to one such competition soon, and as I always do, I start my travel plans by searching Groupon to find the latest in sportswear, separates and dresses at Barney’s New York.

Barney’s has an incredible selection of dresses for spring and summer, and more stock arrives all the time.  It’s my go-to site for all the things I need to update my wardrobe, find appropriate apparel for the events that are part of the conference like awards dinners, speaking engagements and for sight-seeing on the town.  When I add Groupon to the mix, it gets even better because that’s where the money saving offers come from.  They have savings of up to 70% off selected merchandise for men and women, including shoes and swim wear.  That’s perfect for the upcoming 4th of July holiday.  The day is coming when I’ll have a digital assistant to do my shopping for me. Until then, I’ll use my trusty smart phone.
